If you get the chance, check out the back page of the sports section of today’s Idaho Press Tribune. Our own Stephanie Brower is featured in an article called, “What did you do on your vacation?”
It’s a great story with pictures to boot!
Stephanie is our Loan Clerk at the Nampa office.
Congrats, Steph…great article!

I will be the first to admit that I am behind the times when it comes to text messaging. Yes I have a cell phone and yes I have sent and received texts before, but it’s not something that I do on a regular basis. In fact, I’m sure it is quite comical to watch me try to send a text…especially when I get a new phone that likes to complete random words for me. But, I digress.
Here at Idadiv, we launched a new feature to our home banking a month or so ago. It’s called text banking and allows you to send us a text message requesting information on your account such as balance, last transaction, transfer request, etc. We then reply to your cell phone with the information you requested. It’s a pretty cool concept for those who use their cell phone all the time.
If you are someone who loves to text, check it out. Enrolling is easy, just log into your Idadiv account online and follow the simple sign up instructions. Before you know it, you’ll be checking your balances while vacationing on the beach…well, one could dream, right?
Anyway, with the good there is always bad. Scammers and schemers will find a way to use technology to their advantage. Just last week we received information from our debit card processor that someone is sending out text messages to “alert” members that their card has been compromised or that there is unusual activity on their account. The message includes instructions for you to call back, enter your card number and three other additional pieces of information linked to your account. With that information, the scammer is then able to access your funds.
It never ceases to amaze me how creative these bad people can be. I remember the first time I received a phishing email. Honestly, I almost fell for it. I can see how someone might fall for this scam, too. Just remember that Idadiv will never request information from you that we should already have on file via a phone call, email, or text message. If in doubt, call us (using our published number only) and verify that the request is indeed legit before giving out information. It is perfectly ok to refuse to reveal your information if you are unsure.
So, now that you know that a) I can’t text; b) we offer a great new text banking product; and c) schemers and scammers are now using text messaging to try to snag your information; I will get back to working on trying to figure out this new cell phone!
